Sunday Gratitudes #45

What are you grateful for this week? I’m grateful forโ€ฆ

๐ŸŒน- Valentine’s Day!

๐ŸŒน- Remembering to get a card well in advance AND remembering I had it and where.

๐ŸŒน- Getting a reservation at our favorite restaurant at the last minute.

๐ŸŒน- Posting about it on Instagram and the restaurant commented and was super happy, heh.

๐ŸŒน- How nice the cop that pulled us over was. He even made suggestions about the best way to approach the DMV about fixing the problem. (Which is basically that they never sent me new registration tags after I renewed.)

๐ŸŒน- Sitting next to a table of guys talking about cider, and I was brave enough turn around and give them a card from the cidery I work for. (They were talking about cider and Amsterdam, we were seated with our people.)

๐ŸŒน- Reaching a compromise with my boss about which half of Friday I could take off to go to the DMV. Even though she got the better end of the deal.

๐ŸŒน- Finally getting all that DMV crap taken care of, including updating my address. It only took a couple hours and $20.

๐ŸŒน- Experimental baking. I took lots of pictures and wrote down the recipe as I made it up, but I made the cutest little mini pies on Friday after the DMV. The crust is my go-to recipe, which is always the best, but the filling was an experiment with two nectarines, 6oz of blackberries, freshly squeezed orange juice, and whatever else I had in the kitchen. It turned out well, though it still needs some perfecting.

๐ŸŒน- My new purse. I wasn’t planning on getting one so soon, but my partner saw it, ran it by me to see if I liked it, and bought it for me as a three-months-early birthday present. I love it. And it was only $45!

๐ŸŒน- Meeting more of my partners family. An aunt and uncle were visiting, and we joined everyone in the city for dinner with a view of the ocean.

๐ŸŒน- The opportunity to give each couple at the dinner a mini pie to take home. It made me feel like a good lil baker. โ€

๐ŸŒน- Waking up covered in cats.

๐ŸŒน- Tampons. Also, Tampax has changed the color design on the Supers from light green to vivid real and blue swirls. Very fetching.

๐ŸŒน- Lazy sunday mornings spent reading and commenting on WordPress posts.

๐ŸŒน- Rain. I mean, I hope we don’t get too flooded, but the sound is nice to wake up to.

Sunday Gratitudes #44

๐Ÿ”” – Due to a paperwork error on a hastily handwritten section of a form, we were nearly disqualified from receiving a free 8 day dream vacation. But I stuck around arguing about it long enough that they let us have it anyway, along with the complimentary Wine Country tastings we’d also been promised. (All those years of being deeply embarrassed whenever my mom snapped at fast food employees who got our order wrong finally paid off!) I am so proud of myself for not being a doormat and giving in.

๐Ÿ”” – We’re doing a Christmas card this year!! I feel like such an adult.

๐Ÿ”” – I have all my Christmas shopping done. Never have I been so ahead of the curve and organized about gifts before. And most of them are already wrapped and under our tree! Adult achievement unlocked. (I got a gift app and that helped. I’m even under my expected budget!)

๐Ÿ”” – One of my dad’s cousins and her partner are in town and they want to visit, no pressure no schedule no timeline! I love my immediate family but they make scheduling visits so complicated. This is refreshing and makes me feel special and calm and grown up.

๐Ÿ”” – For years I thought I was the only openly queer member of the family because my dad asked me not to tell my catholic grandmother. But the aforementioned cousin (Grammy’s niece) brought her partner to the 100th birthday party. I’m not alone!

๐Ÿ”” – I have a haircut scheduled for Christmas Eve morning. My stylist seemed bummed about having to work that day, so I told her I’d bring her a plate of cookies. She seemed super excited! And this is only my second appointment with her, she doesn’t even know that my grandma makes like twenty different kinds plus barks and candies.

๐Ÿ”” – I wrote twelve days of Christmas love letters for my baby and made them all pretty. It’s going to be a very good Christmas and New Years. ๐Ÿ’

Sunday Gratitudes #43

โ€œGratitude improves physical health. Grateful people experience fewer aches and pains and report feeling healthier than other people, according to a 2012 study published in Personality and Individual Differences. Not surprisingly, grateful people are also more likely to take care of their health.โ€ (x)

What have you felt grateful for this week?

I’m grateful for…

๐Ÿœ – Slow Sunday mornings.

๐Ÿœ – Playing Mahjong games on my phone.

๐Ÿœ – My amazing partner, who just did like twenty pages of complicated genealogy charts for NaNo. Blows me away.

๐Ÿœ – Making progress on my NaNo novel and not being too fussed about my daily word count being below the goal average. I still feel like Iโ€™m king good progress on getting out a first draft of the story I want to tell, which is an accomplishment for me.

๐Ÿœ – Having a new fence! The old one was just a partial one and not completely closed in. Our landlord had to save up for it a bit longer than we expected, but itโ€™s so nice to finally have more privacy in our bedroom, which has these huge gorgeous french doors and was until now totally visible from the back drive.

๐Ÿœ – The newly closed in backyard space. We can let the cats out now and not have to worry about chasing them in complete circles around the duplex.

๐Ÿœ – Posts I made on Facebook being shared. This hardly ever happens, and then suddenly it happens twice in one week: one about the election and one about the cider I work for finally being in our favorite restaurant.

๐Ÿœ – Being emotionally on the same page as the person I love best in the world.

๐Ÿœ – The lavender pills. My boss had me drive to her farm one county over two days in a row, which is about a 130 mile round trip on windy, somewhat nerve-wracking road, and I donโ€™t care if lavender really works or if it was just the placebo effect but I was pretty okay with it.

๐Ÿœ – A good meeting with a guy about some freelance work. I have marketable skills as an experienced Facebooker, mwahaha.

๐Ÿœ – American Horror Story. Omg why so entertaining.

๐Ÿœ – Daylight Savings Time. I love gaining an extra hour. Long live fall!

๐Ÿœ – Getting all the leaves swept off the back porch. It took a long time and now it looks really nice out there.

Sunday Gratitudes #41

This would be number 42 — which is, after all, the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. But I didn’t post last Sunday due to a combination of forgetting until the last minute and then not having time. That’s life though, right?

I’m grateful for…

๐Ÿ“Œ – Writing so much lately!

๐Ÿ“Œ – Good feedback on what I’ve written from my partner.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Both of us doing NaNoWriMo this year!

๐Ÿ“Œ – My coworker giving me a Kleenex with a dab of peppermint oil to help counteract my vertigo.

๐Ÿ“Œ – A very good therapy session. At one point I was remind me that, when it comes to my fiction writing, I am very good at taking feedback andincorporating it into my edits. (Nonfiction is still touchy but I’m aware of and working on that.)

๐Ÿ“Œ – Fantastic seasonal pizzas at our favorite local farm to table restaurant.

๐Ÿ“Œ – New audiobooks from the library! It’s been a while.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Visiting the Sebastopol library for the first and second times. It’s a neat little place.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Our aforementioned favorite restaurant called me at work asking to buy cider! I left a business card with the bill because it makes me feel like a real adult and because I knew our former sales rep had been working to bring them on board before she left. Jackpot!

๐Ÿ“Œ – Getting my flu shot.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Making a doctor appointment and getting my prescription renewed.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Not being put on edge by the fact that it was a male doctor.

๐Ÿ“Œ – The doctor mentioning that over the counter lavender oil pills have good antidepressant propperties. I’m going to give those a shot.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Having five months worth of refills until I have to worry about my prescription again.

๐Ÿ“Œ – Leftover pizza!

๐Ÿ“Œ – Having a partner who can have a sweaty day and still smell really good.

Sunday Gratitudes #40

I’m grateful for…
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Gluten free donuts. They were ridiculouslyย good.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Keurig hot cocoa with a splash of chocolate milk.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Getting my resume, LinkedIn profile, and Facebook work history all updated.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Not being as as upset as I might have been without the foresight to guess something like it was coming. It was a mostly self-contained bout of insanity, donโ€™t worry about it.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – My dad driving up to (a) pick up a dresser we decided to un-handmedown and (b) taking me out to lunch.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – My dad letting me vent. I wen back to work after lunch feeling a lot better about life. Sometimes heโ€™s not the most sympathetic about this sort of stuff, but he actually seems to get it. The support is all the more valuable for that.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Seeing Barney and Polka again over the weekend. They are good dogs.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Being able to text and FaceTime with my partner while weโ€™re separated by dog-sitting and a two hour drive. I miss my cutie.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Buckling down on eating healthier and having a salad for lunch.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Making progress on some work stuff. I feel like Iโ€™m getting a good handle on reorder calls now.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – The fact that both seasonโ€™s of MTVโ€™s Scream are up on Netflix now. Itโ€™s cool to rewatch knowing all the whodunit punchlines.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – My coworker complimenting my phone manner. Phone calls stress me out so it was really nice to hear.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – How happy the kittens are to see me when I get home.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – All of the frozen meals my partner bought me before going down to dog-sit.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Special cookies just for me.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – A โ€œChristmas morningโ€ sensation of relief.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – I meditated for twenty minutes!
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Finally being successful in syncing the Calm app to the Health app on my phone.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Discovering a new sleep tracking feature on my phone now that Iโ€™ve updated it.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Having salad for lunch again.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – The great brainwave of taking grapes to work to snack on.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Feeling like my hair was pretty tonight for FaceTiming.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Trading my salad for California rolls with a coworker who thought she was getting avocado rolls instead.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Meditating for another twenty minutes. Two days in a row!
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Having my baby back!
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Warm chai in the morning. Chai for two!
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Getting the dishes washed. Iโ€™m not very good at washing them the night of, but on weekends Iโ€™ve taken ย washing them while I wait for the chai water to boil.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – Making good progress on the new outline for my novel! This draft is going to make a lot more sense.
โ˜”๏ธ๏ธ – All this rain weโ€™ve been getting lately.

Sunday Gratitudes #39

โ€œParadigms describe how the world occurs to us. In my mind, there are two general ways that the world occurs to people.

The first is from a place of Abundance. This is where people see themselves as acting on the world. They see themselves as the one that has to change. They see the possibilities in all things. They practice gratitude consistently.

The second is from a place of Lack. This is where people see the world acting on them. They assume that things outside of themselves need to change. They focus on what they donโ€™t have. They allow limitations to permeate their lives.โ€ (x)

What have you felt grateful for this week?

I’m grateful for…

๐Ÿ – My partner still loving me when I got us both sick.

๐Ÿ – Our kittens! Theyโ€™ve been snuggling each other so much lately. The other night Frankie was grooming Luci, then Luci got tired of it and tried to lick/bite her ear, but Frankie was like โ€œStop thatโ€ and held her down for more grooming. We got a video of it. Eventually they just started wrestling, but there was so much cute first.

๐Ÿ – Kitten love as a cure for the common cold.

๐Ÿ – Getting the trash taken out, finally. It has been piling up since we got sick and felt to crummy to deal with it.

๐Ÿ – Cleaning the bathroom floor. It was all dusty and bugging me. Now it looks all nice and clean!

This is not how mineย looked, but they were delicious anyway.

๐Ÿ – Trying a new recipe for crustless apple pies. I wasnโ€™t able to core the apples while they were still in halves so I ended up just slicing them and making an apple crumble instead, but I donโ€™t even care because it was delicious. I had so many apples Iโ€™d accumulated from work (Gravenstein, Red Jonathan, Granny Smith, MacIntosh) that it was a fantastic little medley, and that was only half of them. Sunday Gratitudes #38

โ€œI have learned through the practice of mindfulness, gratitude, and spirituality a new path to maximizing my own awareness and happiness. I have started putting negative voices in my mind to bed and learning to accept and focus on my strengths.โ€ (x)

What have you felt grateful for this week?

I’m grateful for…

Pizza and hard cider at Moose’s

๐Ÿ‚ – Visiting an authentic Montana saloon for lunch. Not only was there sawdust on the floor and graffiti carved into every available surface (including parts of the ceiling), but the pizza was amazing.

๐Ÿ‚ – Seeing buffalo, mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and one black-billed magpie during our visit to the National Buffalo Range.

๐Ÿ‚ – Finding Grampsโ€™ memorial brick at the war memorial plaza in Kalispell. It took us a while of searching, but we did it.

๐Ÿ‚ – Getting to pet and pick up my uncleโ€™s outdoor mouse-huntingโ€™ cats, Fuzz and Tom. They were very polite about it, and I was missing my kitten snuggles. Continue reading “Sunday Gratitudes #38”

Sunday Gratitudes #37

One day late, but only because I was without internet connection on a family visit.

โ€œWe are anxious. We worry. We think. We think some more. To stop the cycle, we often need a pattern interrupt. Believing that there is abundance in the world and that there is enough to give and to receive often helps us to get off of the hamster wheel and into the stream of life.โ€ (x)

What have you felt grateful for this week?

I’m grateful for…

๐Ÿฆ„ – Bagels with cream cheese. Great breakfast.

๐Ÿฆ„ – More micro-line pens! Now I have a bunch of them that can live in my briefcase for whenever I need them away from home.

๐Ÿฆ„ – The three containers of Oregon Chai mix that I got at Raleys for 79 cents each.

๐Ÿฆ„ – The Amazon gift card I used to buy the pens, which was a gift from my old supervisor. I really miss my old coworkers and job sometimes.

๐Ÿฆ„ – Having a chance to focus on some tasks at work that Iโ€™ve needed to get cracking on for a while.

๐Ÿฆ„ – The fish pond that weโ€™ve set up in a half wine barrel on the back patio for our new goldfish!

๐Ÿฆ„ – Remembering to bring a thermos with me on my lunchtime caffeine run and getting 50 cents off.

๐Ÿฆ„ – Ben & Jerryโ€™s Tonight Dough.

๐Ÿฆ„ – Having a fish pond!

๐Ÿฆ„ – The camaraderie and support of my current coworkers.

๐Ÿฆ„ – How, when you sit in a hot car for half an hour, it feels really nice just about everywhere else. (It was a bad day in general so I really, really appreciated this feeling.)

๐Ÿฆ„ -Commenting on a restaurantโ€™s Instagram post about beer and inadvertently prompting them to post about our cider next! Thatโ€™s what I love about social media. What a super interaction.

๐Ÿฆ„ – Hot showers. Itโ€™s starting to get chilly at night! We havenโ€™t set the space heater up yet but in the meantime I always have this to fall back on. Continue reading “Sunday Gratitudes #37”

Sunday Gratitudes #36

โ€œIn particular for some more introverted people, the practice of gratitude can improve self-worth in some. Often when we take on a label like introvert or shy, it can cause us to feel less about ourselves. But research shows gratitude reduces social comparisons that might cause us to feel like we are not enough.โ€ (x)

What have you felt grateful for this week?

I’m grateful for…

๐Ÿ† – Dating the cutest patoot.

๐Ÿ† – New cat toys. Both of them have been playing with them, and Frankie almost never condescends to play with toys (while weโ€™re around to watch). She was so pleased that she loafed next to me on the couch all night.

๐Ÿ† – Getting Frankie-loaf couch snuggles two nights in a row!

๐Ÿ† – Our friend Annieโ€™s cat, Nitro, liking the toys she got him while she was up here visiting us.

๐Ÿ† – Sunshine Coffee Roasters.

๐Ÿ† – Stranger things. Itโ€™s so captivating! Although now that weโ€™ve finished it, I am sad. I hope Netflix comes out with more soon.

๐Ÿ† – Caffeine. I felt like a zombie all morning at work until I made a thermos of tea. Didnโ€™t even need to add honey.

๐Ÿ† – Raspberry lemonade. First my partner bought a bottle of it at the store, and since then Iโ€™ve just kept refilling it using my stash of Crystal Light packets of the same flavor. The latter is not as delicious, but it does help us resist the urge to buy more soda.

๐Ÿ† – Getting permission for a workday at the county fair! Woo, pouring cider!

๐Ÿ† – The press release I sent out actually getting posted somewhere! Thatโ€™s a first for me. Also, bloggers are a lot easier to talk into doing that than more traditional media outlets.

๐Ÿ† – Delicious pasta sauce.

๐Ÿ† – Having Friday off (because Iโ€™m working at the fair on Saturday)!

๐Ÿ† – Whole grain naan sent from my old workplace. I miss those guys. Iโ€™m really glad I had the experience of working there for two years โ€” it was good preparation for the small business start-up world, and the food and beverage industry.

๐Ÿ† – Being able to take pills. I needed the Advil to banish my headache.

๐Ÿ† – Getting so many things done on my day off!

๐Ÿ† – Clean litter boxes. Like, soap clean.

๐Ÿ† – Costco! Lol, we hadnโ€™t been to Costco in a long time. And it was during the samples hours.

๐Ÿ† – Cotton candy!

๐Ÿ† – Going to the Mendocino County Fair & Apple Show. Pouring cider was fun, we ate a large curly fries that I swear was bigger than my head, and my partner won six goldfish. Soโ€ฆ now we have six goldfish and two cats. Let the adventures begin.

๐Ÿ† – My partner volunteered to help pour at the California Cider Competition table and was not only super helpful, but really good at it! There is a future tasting room staff member/employee of the month if I ever saw one. (Now all we need is to get that tasting room built.)

๐Ÿ† – How happy my partner is about the fish. Itโ€™s pretty adorable.

๐Ÿ† – The way we won those fish. Technically we only earned won or two, because regardless of ability to aim that game was hard. Then the guy got so exasperated that we were still there and hadnโ€™t won more fish yet that he just have us another four. (It had been a long, hot day. Heโ€™d spent all of it in a booth surrounded and occasionally being hit by pingpong balls. He was pretty done. It was great.)

๐Ÿ† – How many things I had to be grateful for this week!

Sunday Gratitudes #35

โ€œHave you ever noticed how we are influenced by what we choose to focus on? The thoughts we think, beliefs we hold and lens we view life through, all shape our reality. Imagine what might change for us if we viewed our lives through the lens of gratitude on a regular basis.โ€ (x)

What have you felt grateful for this week?

I’m grateful for…

๐Ÿ‡ – The riot of greens, browns, yellows, and reds in the rolling hills of Northern California’s wine country.

๐Ÿ‡ – An invitation to a coworker’s Labor Day party.

๐Ÿ‡ – How good our kittens are about sharing. If they were dogs, baby Luci wouldnโ€™t let her big sister eat until after she finished! But they both eat out of either bowl, occasionally interrupting each other to switch.

๐Ÿ‡ – A friend of ours visiting this weekend!

๐Ÿ‡ – Having the daybed all set up now, with sheets and pillows and everything.

๐Ÿ‡ – Having the daybed set up, because that means we can have overnight guests.

๐Ÿ‡ – California. Itโ€™s awesome.

๐Ÿ‡ – This new winery weโ€™ve found! They have this amazing outdoor, farm-style tasting room, and we never would have found it if not for taking a new route to a different winery because we live in a new place now.

๐Ÿ‡ – Getting enough sleep regularly. My daily average is 8.5 hours and itโ€™s actually spread out pretty evenly.

๐Ÿ‡ – Breakfast. Just in general. Sometimes I have a parfait, or a bagel with cream cheese, or pop tarts. Today I had a hot dish of eggs, spinach, tomatoes, and goat cheese.

๐Ÿ‡ – Our friend teaching us how to start our bullet journals! We got really nice pens to go with them, too.

2016-09-11 17.02.38.jpg

๐Ÿ‡ – Goat cheese.

๐Ÿ‡ – Being so on top of taking my pills and vitamins lately.
