I don’t know, I don’t actually think classics are a requirement. Crime & Punishment isn’t on the list and I would consider that a classic, but that doesn’t change how deeply I disliked the experience of reading it in high school. Russian lit pushes the wrong buttons for me. If I’d been required to read much more it would’ve been a big turnoff. I’m much more into the Sci-Fi classics.
